Know what PNG can and cannot recover

PNG is useful when a later workflow needs lossless re-saving of the decoded pixels. Converting a JPEG to PNG does not remove compression artifacts or restore transparency. The PNG will often use more storage than the JPG source.

Convert JPG or JPEG to PNG in three steps

  1. Select your JPG or JPEG images. You can process up to thirty images in one job.
  2. Keep PNG as the output format and convert. PNG encoding does not use the quality slider.
  3. Compare dimensions and file sizes, then download each PNG. Keep your original JPEG files.

Does JPG to PNG improve quality or remove the background?

No. The tool saves the decoded image as PNG; it does not restore detail lost to JPEG compression or remove a background. An opaque JPG stays opaque. PNG can be useful when an editor or upload form requires that format, even if the result is larger.

Why is my PNG bigger than my JPG?

PNG stores the decoded pixels without another lossy compression step. A photographic JPEG may already store the photo efficiently, so switching to PNG can increase its size. If your goal is a smaller website image, try JPG to WebP or resize and compress images instead.

How conversion works

Choose images, select an output format and convert. The browser decodes and re-encodes each image locally. Download the results individually. Originals remain untouched.

Check the result before publishing

Compare the original and converted sizes shown beside each file. A smaller image can help a webpage load faster, but conversion can also produce a larger file. Review visible quality and keep the original when it serves your page better.

Quality, transparency and metadata

The quality slider controls JPG and WebP compression; PNG uses lossless browser encoding, so that slider does not apply. PNG and WebP can keep transparent pixels; JPG cannot, so the selected background color is placed behind them. Re-encoding may remove metadata such as EXIF and color profile information. Check the output before replacing a published image.

Batch workflow

Select up to 30 images per job. The browser handles them one after another to limit memory use. Each result shows its dimensions, original size and converted size. Files above 30 MB or 32 megapixels are skipped with an error.

Browser support and limits

Conversion depends on the image formats your browser can decode and encode. If the browser cannot create the requested format, the tool reports that file as an error. Animated images, vector formats and RAW files are outside this version.

Common questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion takes place in your browser. Optional analytics measures tool use without image files or filenames.

Will every image become smaller?

No. Source compression and the selected quality affect the output. The result list reports increases as well as reductions.

Can I download an entire batch?

You can convert a batch and download each result separately. A ZIP download is planned for a later version.
